Enlisted Professional Military EducationWhat would you like to do?Advancement Qualification ExaminationsEnlisted members qualifying for advancement to E-4, E-6, E-8 pay grades are required to successfully complete the E-PME AQE by the deadline set in the Coast Guard Personal Manual, M1000.6. Each E-PME AQE covers the material from its own and the preceding pay grade. For example, the E-6 AQE covers the material from both the E-5 and E-6 Study Guides. Important: Prior to taking an E-PME AQE, members must have ALL of the E-PME Performance Requirements signed-off for that test level (see link below). ALCOAST 349/08 ClarificationALCOAST 349/08 states that the old version of the AQE will become obsolete on August 1, 2008, meaning that those who have the old course will no longer be able to take the AQE for that version after that date, and must take the new course. It does not say that those who passed previous versions of the AQE must retake the new course. Unless an ALCOAST announcing a new course specifically states that those who passed the old version must retake the new version, we consider the old version as satisfying the advancement requirement. Old version AQEs cannot be taken after the deadline because the Coast Guard Institute will not grade old versions after the expiration date. So, anyone who has the correct course code in their training record is good to go, whether it's the old or new version, or the new version with the same course code. Read ALCOAST 349/08. Service Wide ExaminationsService Wide Examinations do contain E-PME questions, which are based on information found in the Study Guides and and the E-2 Recruit Orientation Requirements. Presently there is no Study Guide for the E-2 SWE, but the E-2 Performance and Knowledge Requirements (see links below in Performance and Knowledge sections) include references that you can look up. Members studying for a SWE should review all the material up to the pay grade they are working towards. For example, an E-7 studying to take the E-8 SWE should study all the material found in the E-2 through E-8 Study Guides. Knowledge RequirementsCoast Guard members need to know, comprehend and apply knowledge requirements in concrete and abstract terms. Members are not required to have knowledge requirements signed off. Knowledge requirements are used in conjunction with Performance Requirements during the creation of Advancement Qualification Exams and Service Wide Exams.
Performance RequirementsCompletion of E-PME Performance Requirements shall be recorded on the Enlisted Professional Military Education (E-PME) Performance Requirements Worksheet. Proficiency in each requirement must be demonstrated to the designated supervisor at your unit, who will date and initial each item on your worksheet.

Contact your Systems Administrator or local ESD if you do not know how to do this. USCG Standard Workstation Issues with the CD-ROM VersionThe USCG Standard Workstation has some restrictions placed on it as security precautions. One of these restrictions is preventing "active content" from running on your computer without your explicit permission. When using the E-PME CD-ROM version on the Standard Workstation (and quite possibly on other non-standard computers as well), a dialog box questioning the use of active content may pop up during site use. UNCHECK the box to allow the CD to function properly.
This warning may also pop up when allowing blocked content. Click "Yes" to proceed.
The Standard Workstation (and some other non-standard computers as well) may disable any CD "autorun" functionality, which means that the site may not launch automatically when the CD is put in your computer. If necessary, double-click the "index.html" file at the root of the CD to manually launch the site. |
